Remove names from resumes

There have been numerous studies about how implicit bias can affect hiring decisions ("black sounding names" or the blind orchestra audition to name a couple). What if we just simply removed names from resumes. I am the COO of a small firm, and I've asked our HR department to do this manually before handing the resumes over to the hiring managers for screening. However, I feel like this is worth a large scale study where the removal could be automated. You could control using a firm with locations in multiple cities of the same size (e.g. Walmart) and look at not only the number of underrepresented hires but also the economic outcomes of the populations.

Perhaps this has already been done, but I think it's a simple/elegant way to see how removing implicit bias could impact a firm and/or its surrounding community.
