My idea is simple. Just like 401k contributions are made with pre-tax dollars, student loan payments should also be made with pre-tax dollars. This isn't a new idea either. The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 passed last year allows corporations (for the next 5 years) to make pre-tax contributions to student debt on behalf of an employee up to $5,250 a year. My idea is to extend this or something similar to the individual and not rely on a company to make the contributions, as a vast majority of companies do not offer student loan assistance.
